Chicago
History - These special people called Chicago
their home and they were proud to be among such other
fine individuals of so many different nationalities.
The times were good and the area and the people prospered.
Chicago continued to be a booming area until October
8, 1871. That fateful date was the day of The
Great Fire. This ferocious fire destroyed
most of the city. In a few short days it left behind
a devastated ravaged land leaving in its wake completely
ruined buildings and the destruction of the livelihoods
of so many people. With no mercy it scathed an unbelievable
amount of damage estimated at $200 million dollars.
The people of the land knew they were going to get
through the disaster and they worked extremely hard
to rebuild. Eventually the city was repaired and pleasantly
became better than it was before the fire. With great
courage the people of Chicago built
one of the finest skyscrapers to ever have been erected
in the nation. It was named the Sears Tower.
The Chicago area became second only to New York in
manufacturing capabilities and today it houses millions
of Americans. It is a city rich in culture, architecture
and nightlife with many amazing things to do and see.
It was in the 1920’s that Chicago took on a
new and noteworthy trait. It became a tourist destination.
The Midway Terminal became one of
the most travelled airports in the nation. Today the
O’Hare Airport has become one
of the most travelled in the world. No wonder so many
come to see all that Chicago has to offer. With great
airports, as well as all the other finest attractions
Chicago has to offer, it attracts many businesses,
which makes the city become even more prosperous.
From so little to so much Chicago is one of America’s
finest cities. It is one of the most alluring Tourist
Destinations and continues to be one of the
most visited cities in all of America.
